Mickey Freaking Rourke

Went to see The Wrestler tonight. It was so great but I wish I had seen it in the privacy of my living room so I could curl up in the fetal position and cry for like an hour like I wanted to. We went to eat Indian food after and I had to wait until we got to the restaurant to talk about it so I wouldn't get too choked up. I know Mickey looks really different than he did in 9 1/2 weeks but I still love him to pieces. I'm obsessed with this movie by the way. And I loved his blond bun in The Wrestler. I'm going to wear my hair just like his for at least a week.

Christmas Treats

We keep it real simple around here for Christmas. $50 limit and we usually buy something for the house. This year we got a new flatscreen tv for the bedroom using mostly the change we've been saving for 2 years. Here are the treats Brian bought for me.

The Grateful Dead Converse I've been eying. I probably won't ever wear these. They are more for display. And the new French Vogue with the Terry Richardson calender 'realized' by Carine Roitfeld. Magic I know.

Stay Free

Here are a few of my favorite books. The first is a biography by Cherie Currie of The Runaways. I snagged this copy from a dealer on Amazon. She signed it 'Stay Free'. WOW!!! The second is an english copy of Christiane F. which was a real bitch to track down. The third needs no introduction. And the fourth is a really fun one I picked up with lots of great pics. I've been meaning to pick up the companion book Lady Of The Stars.

Favorite New Polish!!!

So after reading tons of press on Rescue Beauty Lounge and all these cool colors they have I clicked on their website only to be enraptured by these new colors they have for Fall, Teal and No More War. The Teal is totally sold out online so I decided to pop into the store to check it out. Ji Baek herself was there on hand to help. They didn't have the Teal but they did have the No More War, and army green that is insane! There are also three colors based on Spongebob Squarepants called Bikini Bottom, Patrick and of course, Spongebob Squarepants. These colors are pale blue, peach and yellow respectively. I loved these but am a little weary of sheer colors. Ji was wearing the Bikini Bottom and it looked great on her so I decided to give it a try. I also bought No More War. Now I'm obsessed with this place and have to own most of the colors. Not cheap at $18 a pop, but that was all forgotten after I got a manicure with the Bikini Bottom yesterday. Are you kidding me? Look, it's the same color as my favorite summer dress!!!

Fashion Week

Went by the tents at Bryant Park yesterday. Got there just in time to see everyone going into the Phillip Lim show. It was a crazy crowded madhouse but I did make a few sightings. Lisa Love, Jefferson Hack, Ann Slowey, Simon Doonan, Sweetpea from Project Runway. Nothing that exciting. But when I went to my secret perch I spotted Anna Wintour and Rachel Zoe coming out. If you look really hard you can see Anna in the middle of the street there. All in all, very fun people watching on the most beautiful day of the year!

Birthday Gifts From Brian

Almost Grown is an out of print book from 1978 by Joseph Szabo with poetry collected by Alan Ziegler. The poetry is all done by teenagers. Super Cool!!! The Chloe Sevigny book coincided with her collection for Opening Ceremony. It's cut in half so you can mix and match the pics inside. It includes some drawings by Rita Ackerman, Benjamin Cho, Dan Colen, Matt Damhave, Spencer Sweeney and a few others who I have to do some research on. Super Rad!!! And some fun moccasin slippers. Since my moccasins are on deep freeze until this trend dies down a little bit I can wear these around the house. More from inside the books later.

Kinokuniya

Went to the Guggenheim on Sunday to see the Louise Bourgeois. Great show. The Guggenheim always delivers. Then my husband complained about the ugly tourists and the heat all the way down to Bryant Park. Yeah, for 47 blocks. Just as I was about to google cheap divorce lawyers on my iPhone we stepped into the oasis that is Kinokuniya Books, the awesomely rad Japanese bookstore that overlooks Bryant Park. We had mocha and green tea frappes and all our woes were put on deep freeze.

Bass Sunjuns

Remember these from when we were little? I think my sister Annette used to wear these in the early 80's. Well I've been thinking about these a lot lately and was going to try to hunt some down on eBay. I was walking around in my fabulous new a.p.c. jumpsuit that coincidentally looks like something I would have found at a Dead show in college thinking I really needed some of those Bass sandals to go with it. My blue sandals were not cutting it. So I decided to go check Shoe Market in Williamsburg which always has exactly what I'm looking for. They had them, and they were buy one get one half off. So I got both these babies for just $65! The guy there said that Bass went out of business and just came back a couple of years ago. Yeah! They are so comfy too.

a.p.c.

So I basically spent my rent at a.p.c. this past weekend. But I got lots of good stuff. I adore this French label but unfortunately it's not really meant for people with my um, body type. But I did get a few good pieces for the rest of summer and into the fall. And they were having a great sale so must of the stuff was half off. Can't wait to wear the trenchcoat and sunglasses in Paris this September! Au Revoir!

The Gothfather

In high school The Cure was my favorite band. I looooved Robert Smith. I saw them the summer before my freshman year started. My sister and her boyfriend brought me to New Orleans to see them! How cool is it that I had older sisters to bring me to concerts? That was the Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me tour. I was lucky enough to catch them last night at Radio City. 21 years since the last time I saw them. They were amazing! I didn't know a lot of the new stuff, I haven't bought an album since Disintegration. The crowd was weird. What's up with that? Where have all the goth girls gone? Not one cool looking person! (Besides Moi). Robert was soooo charming. He talked about how wonderful the weather was and passing his driving test. Then for the encore he climbed the steps on the sides that led all the way up to the mezzanine. The spotlight didn't even make it that far up. So he was in complete darkness and someone had to kinda come get him with the flashlight. He started laughing and said 'I can't believe you fucking let me come up here'. But then he climbed up the other side during 'Why Can't I Be You?' They played a lot of my faves like Catch, Push, Charlotte Sometimes, Boys Don't Cry, Close to Me, Hanging Garden. They went off on 10:15 Saturday Night. Did I mention they played for 3 HOURS?! My favorite was Kyoto Song. It was the first time he put down the guitar and just walked around the stage and sang.

Yves Saint Laurent

One of the most important figures in fashion died on June 1. I've been waiting for some magazine special to come out. Something I could keep. I was elated when I found this Paris Match with a 42 page special. The cover shot is my fave of all time! Coincidentally I've been reading this book about him and Karl Lagerfeld.

More Self Service

So this is the first issue of Self Service to go hardback.  Fall/Winter 2006.  Shalom Harlow and Raquel Zimmerman star on both versions of the cover.  Self Service is the ultimate.  There is a 95 page layout with Shalom and Raquel with all these avant-garde  pics photographed by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.  They also feature old photographs of cool people like these of Peter Saville and a young Terry Richardson taken by his mother, Annie Lomax.  There are also old fashion advertisements sometimes photographed with new accessories on top of them. And new ads like Tsumori Chisato that you can't find anywhere else.  On top of it all at the end of the mag there's always cool interviews like this one with Tilda Swinton and Mike Mills.

Bitchen

Also found my copy of 'The Totally Awesome Val Guide'.  This is like totally amazing!  It explains how to eat, drink and breathe like a valley girl.  Published in 1982!

Memory Lane

So I just took a trip home to Louisiana. As usual, I dug through all my old junk. All the fun things I don't have room for in my tiny New York apartment. I came across some really good stuff! First, my old Guess jeans which are probably circa '84-'85. The pair with the triangular pockets were my first pair. I remember pretty much growing out of these as soon as I got them. The really cool ones with the fold down pockets belonged to a friend of my sister's and never really fit me. I just wore them with a long shirt. The zippers are broken in both of them. My heart started beating really fast when I saw that Guess label. My mother got the ones with the buttons on the fly. I remember seeing 2 really cool girls at my sister's church in White Castle(a tiny Louisiana town). One had really amazing Guess jeans that I never saw anywhere ever again. The fly tied up. She had some cool long cardigan on with them. I knew they must have been visiting their grandparents from like New York or something. I'm pretty sure I tried to copy her look for the next 20 years or so.

Overly Chloe

So this Self Service has 120 pages of nothing but Chloe pics done by different photographers and stylists. Of course my favorite section is the one styled by Camille Bidault-Waddington and photographed by Terry Richardson. I'm a huge fan of Camille. She is one of my fave stylists by far. She also happens to be the wife of Jarvis Cocker. Can you get any cooler than that? I saw her in Paris during fashion week; I think she was on her way to the Westwood show. I also think she noticed me silently freaking.
